Description
Saturn is a wielder of lightning; master of production, wealth, and pleasure, lord of creation and destruction. He is the lord of the Saturnalia which celebrated the harvest and sowing and ran from December 17–23 (in the Julian calendar). Linked to the Lord of Misrule in the middle ages, Saturnalia was the time when social restrictions were relaxed as a temporary release from civilized constraint. Saturnalia was also a festival of light leading to the winter solstice and the “Birthday of the Unconquerable Sun,” on December 25. Saturn is all about learning one’s limits and the emphasizing of boundaries and how to break out from them. Sorcerers use a blend of these oils when doing binding or hexing spells, rituals for breaking one’s own bad habits, or spell work for connecting to crone/elder streams. Saturn’s classical planetary influence is considered malevolent and its fragrances unpleasant, However, with careful blending the fragrance of this Saturn oil is grounding, earthy and has the assurance and power of age and time.
Uses
Diffuse for celebrating the powers of Saturn and sharing his gifts.
Emotional Response
Saturn induces a mature, relaxing and sedative effect on both the mind and body by relieving nervous stress and anxiety. This property can be helpful to pacify people who have suffered a serious shock, trauma, or major setback in life. It is also spiritually grounding and helps in acceptance of change by going with the flow and feeling more secure. It has an uplifting effect and revives the mind, acknowledging boundaries but looking beyond them for the darker edges of the world.
