Frankincense – Boswellia carterii

Description

Frankincense is rejuvenating, excellent for dry and mature skin and anti-wrinkle, when diluted and added to creams and carrier oils. Stress releasing, relaxing, calming, it helps to slow breathing and ease shortness of breath. It helps in asthma and has a soothing effect on head colds and catarrhal conditions generally. It can act as an antidepressant and also helps stimulate the immune system.

It is used for treating arthritis, healing wounds, sores and ulcers. strengthening the female hormone system and purifying the air (antibacterial). Frankincense oil appears to distinguish cancerous from normal bladder cells and suppress cancer cell viability.

Vibrating at 147 MHz it is good for meditation as it elevates the mind, slows and deepens breathing. This essential oil is very useful in spells of self-exploration. It is sovereign for those trying to abandon everyday concerns to concentrate on more uplifting issues

Contraindications

Avoid if taking Warfarin or other blood thinning medication. Avoid if suffering from an upset stomach. May cause nausea, stomach pain, burning sensations or a feeling of fullness. Extremely rarely, an allergic reaction may be experienced. This should be treated as a medical emergency

Dilution Rate

In a vaporiser, use for bronchitis, colds, coughs and voice loss, as well as to calm the mind, reduce anxiety and regain perspective.

Diluted to 2% or less in a carrier oil for colds, coughs, bronchitis, rheumatism, chilliness, poor circulation, exhaustion, nightmares, heavy periods, respiratory problems and mucus congestion. For cracked skin and bed sores, apply gently directly on to affected areas.

Diluted in water it promotes healing and prevents ugly scarring on wounds, add 2 drops to 250ml of water when washing the wound.

Myrrh –  Commiphora myrrha

Description

Myrrh is a revitalizing oil, non-irritant/non-sensitizing and much used in incense and perfumes. It is used as an astringent and anti-wrinkle agent in creams and carrier oils. A healing antiseptic, good for mouth and throat problems, soothing to all mucus membranes and easing for chest infections.  It aids poor digestion and stomach acid.  It maintains healthy skin, prevents skin aging and soothes chapped or cracked skin.

It is used for diarrhoea, dyspepsia, flatulence and haemorrhoids and is very good for mouth ulcers, pyorrhea, gingivitis and sore throats. It is of great help to promote menstruation and for relieving painful periods and to ease difficult labour in childbirth.

Myrrh releases fears, difficult or painful experiences. It helps to be more accepting, trusting and non-judgmental of ourselves and others. This oil is purifying, restorative, revitalizing, and uplifting to the mind, it can relieve stress and relax the body. Place on the heart to release old patterning and embrace new relationships with oneself and others.

Contraindications

GRAS (Generally regarded as safe) but could be toxic in high dosage and should not be used in pregnancy, as it can act as a uterine stimulant.

Dilution Rate

Diluted to 1% – 2% in a carrier oil for use as a mouthwash to help eliminate dental infections. Put it in a cold compress to relieve sores and wounds. Add it to creams and lotions to help relieve skin infections, such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, weeping eczema, bedsores, boils, carbuncles, and acne.

In a diffuser, Myrrh oil can be useful with bronchitis, catarrh, colds and coughs. It is also great for enhancing spirituality and is most useful when meditating, for mental strength, focus and clarity. It’s also a wonderful oil for people with feelings of apathy so great if you need some ‘get up and go’.
