Pine – Pinus sylvestris

Description

It was used by the Native Americans to prevent scurvy and the needles were used to repel lice and fleas. Pine is viewed as an analgesic, antibacterial, antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic, and as an antiviral. Aromatherapists credit its use for arthritis, asthma, bladder infections, bronchitis, catarrh, as a circulatory agent, for colds, convalescence, coughs, cuts, cystitis, as a decongestant and deodorant, and for detoxifying, disinfecting, and acting as a diuretic. Pine essential oil also increases the metabolism and boosts activity levels. It is a diuretic and helps remove excess water from the body. Useful for food poisoning as it stimulates the body to eliminate toxins faster through urination.

It has also been applied to eczema, those with laryngitis, muscular aches, neuralgia, psoriasis, rheumatism, ringworm, scrapes, and sinusitis. Its versatility is well documented.

It creates an energized feeling and is effective for removing mental stress. It is also used for relieving adrenal fatigue and refreshing spirits. An excellent mood elevator. Contraindications

GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) Although it should still be used with care on the skin since it can cause irritation in high dosage and may sensitize the skin as well.  Avoid if suffering from kidney disorders. Avoid use on children and elderly people. Avoid if suffering from high blood pressure.

Dilution Rate 

1% – 2%

Dilute all oils in a suitable carrier such as Grapeseed (Vitis vinifera) or a blend of Grapeseed and Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil before skin application.
