Description
Clove is a warming oil, traditionally used as a muscle relaxant and soothing agent. Together with Orange and Frankincense it blends to make one of the seasonal scents of Christmas.
It stimulates peristalsis and alleviates nausea and is renowned for relieving digestive wind. It can be used in blends for rheumatism, arthritis and muscle aches and pains.
Clove oil has anti-fungal properties and can be used to treat athlete’s foot. Good for skin sores, leg ulcers and lupus. It is a constituent of anti-fungal essential oil blends. Clove oil is renowned for its use in calming the acute pain of toothache. It’s also used as an insect and mosquito repellent.
It strengthens and stimulates the uterus and may ease the pain of labour. However, for this purpose it should only be used under proper supervision. Use with caution.
Uses
- In a vaporizer it can help with nervous disorders and maintaining perspective on life.
- Diffused in an oil-burner it can purify the air in a sick room
- Diluted to 1% or less in a carrier oil it is used to calm the pain of toothache.
Emotions
Clove oil can be used to increase energy levels or to add extra potency to blends.
Contraindications
Clove oil should be avoided entirely during the early stages of pregnancy. Use with caution. Clove Bud oil can cause sensitization in some and should be used in dilution of less than 1%.
Active Ingredients
Eugenol comprises 72-90% of the essential oil extracted from cloves and is the compound most responsible for clove aroma. ß-Caryophyllene Eugenol acetate, a-Caryophyllene, Isoeugenol, Methyleugenol
Cautions
Essential oils can be powerful so to avoid all risks do not use during pregnancy. Keep away from clothing or articles which may be affected by oil-based products.
