Clove - Syzygium aromaticum

Clove is a warming oil, traditionally used as a muscle relaxant and soothing agent. Together with Orange and Frankincense it blends to make one of the seasonal scents of Christmas. It stimulates peristalsis and alleviates nausea and is renowned for relieving digestive wind. It can be used in blends for rheumatism, arthritis and muscle aches and pains. Clove oil has anti-fungal properties and can be used to treat athlete's foot. Good for skin sores, leg ulcers and lupus. It is a constituent of anti-fungal essential oil blends. It strengthens and stimulates the uterus and may ease the pain of labour. However, for this purpose it should only be used under proper supervision. Use with caution.

Clove oil is renowned for its use in calming the acute pain of toothache. It's also used as an insect and mosquito repellent.
